User manual Screenshots
Notes for screenshots (when using #Language_shortcuts_GrampsAIO)
- Set a GRAMPSHOME for each Language otherwise you need to delete the gramps home profile ( gramps.ini ) files because Gramps shows the last language used in the gramplets titles! see Gramps_and_Windows#Setting_the_configuration_path
- Complete English screenshots then start on each of the other user manuals that are enabled.
- Using a spreadsheet to track each screenshot per language. and use https://gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php/Screenshots
- Greenshot for Image Annotation https://acrsupport.acr.org/support/solutions/articles/1000137445-greenshot-for-image-annotation
- See list of screenshots that have been annotated in some fashion! Need to provide instructions to translators for those screenshots that have words! (note that creating annotations is tedious !)
- If screenshot has yellow highlight decide if screenshot can be added without it ( less issues recreating the image!)
- Language selector - add back to other reports and need to link to an example of this on that calendar holidays page highlighted in yellow
- links for non English user manuals don't always work because of translated title and redirection! use
<span ID="Graphs"></span>
wrapped around the relevant section title.
automate the screenshot process
- See stackoverflow question: Automatically taking screenshots of program window that mentions: "We have a software manual with a number of screenshots. When new version of software is released we need to update most of screenshots and we have to do it manually. Now we started translating manual to several languages and number of screenshots to take have increased ten fold. We'd like to automate this process."
automate the bulk screenshot upload to mediawiki process
Ask Sam888 if ok?
- Bulk file uploader for MediaWiki sites https://github.com/Aspallar/Wiki-Up
- https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Category:Bulk_upload
Wiki weirdness
Need to report these when they happen:
- Wiki weirdness, sometimes editing a section moves it to bottom of page and parts of page disappear , happened twice and I had to revert my edits!
User manual PDF generation
To do
- Update all user manual screenshots; even if the same, to be for 6.0.x
- Get rid of user manual stub sections
- Move "GEDCOM import limitations" section to Appendix
- Create new Prerequisites section for Appendix (linked to parts of Gramps that need them)?
- Gramps Performance see GEDFAN to create large test trees?
- Mediawiki Help: Use mediawiki subpages to organise information.
- Category:Versions - template for Gramps release numbers etc.

- Gramps-Web: Talk to your tree! DavidMStraub - I implemented a new AI chat feature in Gramps Web but it took me a while to sort out a few outstanding things and write documentation, now I can finally start advertising it. Gramps Web will soon be the first open source genealogy system with an AI assistant!
