You can change the 'Action' at any time on any item, it may be instructive to see the results of choosing the various choices in the lower pane.
In general you I recommend that you start marking your items with the 'Different' items first. Within these, doing '''Families''' and '''Persons''' first will usually minimize the amount of work to merge your tree. This tool starts up with the sort set to put these items first, so starting at the top is easy.
