Is On of the common question of new users of Gramps is whether there is a simple way to input two IDs for individuals and find out what their disvover the relationship and degree isof separation between two Persons?
It's not hard to do it visually on a full family tree (ie one that shows ALL the people, not rather than just descendant and ancestors), but difficult when the size of the tree is very large.
I'm hoping to find something like:
This is typically done by designating one Person as the Home Person and navigating the Active Person selection to the others as they pop up in discussion.
Once you have set the Home Person, several options can show the Active Person's relationship to the Home Person:
Reports
Several of the reports (if I recall correctly) have an option to show the relationship to the home person -- or not.

Kinship report

The Records view of a Family Historian database has fields showing the:
Individual (by name), Record ID, Dates (Birth and Death - as appropriate)
as default and one can add other fields. I added Birth Place and
Relationship to Root, both selected from a drop-down menu.

So, when creating a report for All Individuals, I end up with a report as
in the following example.

The Status Bar:
ln the display tab of the Preferences, you can change the Status bar from the default of displaying thr the 'Active person's name and ID' to 'Relationship to home person'.
* The Relationship to home person Display Preferences option for the Status bar
* Relation to Home Person quick view.
* The Deep Connections gramplet: If this third party add-on is installed, it will list the intervening generations through the sibling offspring of a common ancestor. (But it does not list the common ancestor or if whether both person a persons are connected through the same spouse.) The Gramplet also details the indirect relationships. * Kinship report
