Unlocking a Family Tree

== Unlocking a Family Tree ==When GRAMPS opens a tree, it locks the tree, preventing you or anyone else opening it at the same time. A second copy of GRAMPS will be able to open another family tree, but the tree already open will appear with the lock icon, indicating you cannot open it. Closing the tree in the first copy of GRAMPS will make it available to be opened in the second copy.
If you could open Several copies of GRAMPS can run at the same time. In case they use the same Family Tree in two GRAMPS at once, it is its data will very likely your data would be damagedbecome corrupted.
To avoid this undesirable configuration, when GRAMPS opens a Family Tree, it locks it, to warn you or anyone else that the Family Tree is already currently in use.A locked Family Tree is identified in the {{man label|Family Trees}} window by an icon displayed in the {{man label|Status}} column. In the unlikely event of a crash of GRAMPS, the family tree an open Family Tree will be left in a locked state.  To unlock the treea Family Tree, select the locked family treeFamily Tree in the {{man label|Family Trees}} window, and click the {{man button|UnlockLoad Family Tree}} button. This will open a message box, warning you of the potential risks involved by unlocking a Family Tree. Read the message carefully. Click the {{man button|Break the lock}} button only if you are sure no other copy of GRAMPS is running and using that will be availablesame Family Tree. In case of doubt, close the message box by clicking the {{man button|Cancel}} button and check. Come back to the {{man label|Family Trees}} window when you are sure no other copy of GRAMPS is using the Family Tree you would like to open. Only do this  {{man warn|Data corruption risk!|Unlock a Family Tree only if you are sure no other copy of GRAMPS is running and using this family treethat same Family Tree.}} Remark: There is no problem when several copies of GRAMPS run at the same time and each of them uses a different Family Tree.
