Case doesn't matter. Notice that the names don't use underscores in them. You may use any combination of these, in any order. (Actually, you have to at least have a surname and a given name when defining a person, and you have to have a marriage and child columns when defining children, but that is it.) The column names are the English names given (for now) but the data should be in your language (including the words "male" and "female").
+

Each of these can go in its own area in a spreadsheet. There is no limit to the number of areas in a sheet, and each area can have any number of rows. Leave a blank row between "areas". Just make sure that areas are not next to each other; they must be above and below one another.
+

You can have mutiple areas of each kind on a spreadsheet. The only limitation is that if you refer to a person, you must do that in a row lower than where that person is described. Likewise, if you refer to a marriage, you must do that in a row lower than where the marriage is described.
+

If you are entering the data in a text file, and if you wish to have a comma inside one of the values, like "Clinton, Co., MO" then you need place the entire value in double-quotes and put the first double-quote right after the preceding comma. For example:
+
Esimerkiksi:

Edellinen Hakemisto Seuraava

Nyt suuntaamme yksityiskohtaiselle tutkimusmatkalle päivittäiseen GRAMPS:in käyttöön.

Uuden sukupuun aloittaminen

Kuva 4.0. Sukupuut

Valitse Lataa sukupuu ladataksesi uuden tyhjän sukupuun.

Sukupuun avaaminen

Avataksesi sukupuun valitse joko Sukupuut -> Hallinnoi sukupuita tai napsauta Sukupuut painiketta työkaluriviltä. Sukupuut ikkuna tule näkyviin ja näet listan kaikista GRAMPS:in tuntemista sukupuista. Kuvake näyttää Tila sarakkeessa sukupuun vieressä, mikäli sukupuu on avoimena.

Gramps-notes.png
Tietokannan avaus

Kokeneille käyttäjille: jokainen tietokanta on talletettu omaan alihakemistoonsa hakemiston ~/.gramps alle. Käsin tehtävä varmuuskopiointi voidaan tehdä varmistamalla tämä hakemisto.

Varmuuskopioinnin ikkuna

Fig. 4.2 Varmuukopiointi

Valitse Perhepuut->Varmuuskopio...".

Voit halutessasi ottaa varmuuskopioon mukaan mediatiedostot.

Tiedot viedään tavanomaisessa XML muodossa, mitään tietoa ei suodateta pois. Tiedot palaavat siksi tuonnissa takaisin.

Varmuuskopiotiedoston nimen rakenne asetetaan paths.quick-backup-filename vakiossa ~/.gramps/gramps34/gramps.ini tiedostossa seuraavasti:

[paths]
quick-backup-filename='%(filename)s_%(year)d-%(month)02d-%(day)02d.%(extension)s'

Seuraavat vakiosanat on käytettävissä rakenteessa: year, month, day, hour, minutes, seconds, filename, extension.

Sukupuun arkistointi

Tango-Dialog-information.png
Huomaa

Arkiston tekemiseksi:

Kuva 5.1 Sukupuun arkistoinnista esimerkki
  1. lataa sukupuusi.
  3. napsauta lataamaasi sukupuuta: Arkistoi painikkeen pitäisi tulla esille.
  4. napsauta Arkistoi painiketta, jolloin sinua pyydetään syöttämään "versiokommentti ja kuvaus" arkistollesi.

Arkistoinnin jälkeen sukupuiden listassa on alkuperäisen sukupuun vasemmalla puolella oikealle osoittava kolmio.

  • napsauta kolmiota, jolloin näkyville tulee arkiston nimi (uudelleen napsautus supistaa arkistolistan).

Arkistoja voidaan poistaa, nimetä uudelleen ja ottaa niiden tiedot käyttöön.

Sukupuun arkiston palauttaminen

Kuva 5.2 Palautettavan version valinta

Vioittuneen sukupuun korjaaminen

Kuva 4.0 Sukupuun korjaamien

Voit peruuttaa tekemäsi muutokset valitsemalla Muokkaa -> Peru.

GRAMPS XML tietokanta on suositeltavin tähän tarkoitukseen.

Tietojen tuonti

Tuonti sallii siirtää tietoja muista sukututkimusohjelmista GRAMPS tietokantaan. Tällä hetkellä GRAMPS voi tuoda tietoja seuraavissa tiedostomuodoissa:

GRAMPS V2.x tietokanta (.grdb tiedostopääte)

GEDCOM (.ged tiedostopääte)

GRAMPS XML (.gramps tiedostopääte)

GRAMPS paketti (.gpkg tiedostopääte)

GeneWeb (.gw tiedostopääte)

GRAMPS CSV taulukkolaskenta - pilkulla erotetut arvot (.csv tiedostopääte)

Gramps-notes.png

Tuodaksi tiedot valitse Sukupuut -> Tuonti.

Gnome-important.png
Tiedon katoaminen joistakin tiedostomuodosta

Gramps-notes.png
Toisten ohjelmien luomien tapahtumien järjestys

Tuonti toisista ohjelmista ei aina järjestä tapahtumia olettamaasi järjestykseen. Grampsissa on tuki tapahtumien järjestämiseen haluamallasi tavalla. Katso tarkemmin (englanniksi) Sort Events tool.

GRAMPS V2.x tietokannan tuonti

Gnome-important.png
Gramps 4.0 ei tue tuontia Gramps V2.x muodossa.

Vanha V2.x tietokanta on tuotava ensin Gramps V3.0.x versioon ja siitä Gramps XML (tai Gramps XML paketti) muotoisena edelleen Gramps 4.0. versioon

Gramps XML and XML paketin tuonti

Gramps XML and Gramps XML Package ovat Grampsin nykyisin käytettäviä alkuperäisiä tietokantamuotoja.

  • GRAMPS XML paketti: GRAMPS XML paketti on koostetiedosto. Se sisältää GRAMPS XML tiedoston ja kaikki mediatiedostot (kuvat, äänet, jne.) joihin tietokanta viittaa. Koska paketti sisältää kaikki mediatiedostot, tämä tiedostomuoto on täysin siirrettävä. GRAMPS XML paketti luodaan viemällä (Sukupuut -> Vienti) valinnassa tiedot tähän tiedostomuotoon.

Jos tuot tiedot toisessa GRAMPS tietokannasta tai GRAMPS XML tietokannasta, näet tapahtuman edistymisen GRAMPSin pääikkunan edistymispalkissa. Tuonnin päätyttyä palauteikkuna näyttää tuotujen kohteiden lukumäärän. Jos data on alunperin lähtöisin tietokannasta, johon tuodaan, Gramps tekee ehdotuksia siitä mitä kaikkea voitaisiin sulauttaa; sulautuksia ei tehdä puolestasi automaattisesti. Harkitse CSV-muotoista vientiä/tuontia, jos haluat perustason autuomaattista sulauttamista.

Gramps CSV tuonti

  • GRAMPS CSV taulukkolaskenta tiedostomuoto tuo ja vie osan GRAMPS tiedoista yksinkertaiseen taulukkolaskentamuotoon. Katso lisätietoja CSV Import and Export.

GEDCOM tuonti

Fig. 5.4 Import report

Grampsin tietomalli eroaa GEDCOMin tietomallista. Tästä johtuen joitain tietoja ei saa tuoduksi Grampsiin.

Pääpoikkeamat ovat:

  • Joitain GEDCOM attribute structures are treated as Gramps Attributes and therefore many of the GEDCOM Primitive Elements cannot be stored.
  • The DATA elements of a SOURCE_RECORD (indicating the events recorded and responsible agency) are ignored.
  • Any source citations on notes are ignored.
  • Many GEDCOM Primitive Elements do not have exactly corresponding data elements in Gramps, and they are therefore stored as Attributes or Data with appropriate names, normally the GEDCOM tag. This applies particularly to the header, submitter and submission GEDCOM records and particular fields like REFN, RFN, RIN and AFN.
Fig. 5.5 Import report:Example of top level indicating omitted data
Fig. 5.6 Import report:Example of a note indicating omitted data

Where data is stated to be 'ignored', its omission is reported in the feedback at the end of import, and it is included in a note attached to a relevant object.

Where data is stated to be 'silently ignored', it is (at present - this may be regarded as a lacuna), not reported and not included in a note.

This section describes any GEDCOM data that cannot be directly represented in Gramps, and how it is handled. For additional information on the limits of GEDCOM imports (and exports), please read the section on Gramps and GEDCOM.

Gramps has no direct representation of this data, and hence all information there has to be stored in other objects. Depending on a General preferences setting, a 'default source' object may be created. If this is created, then much of the data is stored in that Source, or in Repositories attached to that source.

The PLAC FORM is stored internally and used to govern the interpretation of places (in accordance with the GEDCOM specification).

The SUBMISSION_RECORD (there should be only one, but this is not checked) is stored as a Data item of the 'default source'

  • Link to submitter, ancestor interest and descendent interest indicators are silently ignored.
  • The alias indicator ("An indicator to link different record descriptions of a person who may be the same person") is stored as an Association called 'Alias'.
  • The REFN and REFN:TYPE are stored as Attributes of the Person, but if there is more than one REFN, it may not be clear which TYPE is associated with which REFN.

Handling of the INDIVIDUAL_ATTRIBUTE_STRUCTURE is rather complicated. The following tags:

  • EDUC (Scholastic achievement),
  • NMR (Count of marriages),
  • OCCU (Occupation),
  • PROP (Possessions),
  • RELI (Religious affiliation),
  • RESI and
  • TITL (Nobility title)

are all treated as Gramps Events and the associated information is stored in the event structure. The details following the main tag (shown in brackets in the list above) are stored as the Description of the Event. The <EVENT_DESCRIPTOR> following the TYPE tag will overwrite the Description if the <EVENT_DESCRIPTOR> is not the attribute name.

The following tags:

  • CAST (Caste name),
  • DSCR (Physical description),
  • INDO (National ID Number),
  • NATI (National or tribal origin),
  • NCHI (Count of Children) and
  • SSN (Social Security Number)

are all treated as Gramps Attributess and most of the fields except the details following the main tag (shown in brackets in the list above), the source citation and the note structure are ignored, as indicated in bold below.

Tietojen viennillä voit jakaa sukupuusi minkä tahansa osan toisille tutkijoille ja siirtääsen myös toiseen tietokoneeseesi. Tällä hetkellä Gramps tukee seuraavia vientimuotoja: Gramps XML, GEDCOM, Gramps XML Package, Web Family Tree, GeneWeb, ja CSV laskentataulu muodot.

Gramps-notes.png
Vienti on kopiointia

Kun viet, tallennat avaamasi sukupuun tietoja. Vienti luo uuden tiedoston tiedoistasi.

Tietojen viemiseksi valitse Sukupuut ->Vie... valikko.

Gramps allows you to export a database into common file formats.

It provides options that allow you to fine tune your export.

  • Filters on People and Notes: Filters allow you to export a limited amount of data, based on the criteria you select.
  • Do not include records marked private: Check this box to prevent private records from being included in the exported file.
  • Restrict data on living people: Check this box to limit the information exported for living people. This means that all information concerning their birth, death, addresses, significant events, etc., will be omitted in the exported file. If you choose this option, you will be given additional options to limit further the data on living people. For example, you can choose to substitute the word Living for the first name (see your settings); you can exclude notes; and you can exclude sources for living people.
  • Do not include not related records: Check this box to prevent not related records from being included in the exported file.

Sometimes, it is not always obvious from the data if someone is actually alive. Gramps uses an advanced algorithm to try to determine if a person could still be alive. Remember, Gramps is making its best guess, and it may not always be able to guess correctly all the time. Please double check your data.

Vienti GRAMPS muodoissa

  • GRAMPS database (grdb) export: Exporting to the GRAMPS native format will simply make a copy of your data under another name. Exporting to this format can also be useful if you have directly opened an XML or GEDCOM file and would like to save it as the grdb file.
  • GRAMPS XML database export: Exporting into GRAMPS XML format will produce a database compatible with the previous versions of GRAMPS. As XML is a text-based human-readable format, you may also use it to take a look at your data.
  • GRAMPS package export: Exporting to the GRAMPS package format will create a compressed file that contains the database and copies of all associated media files. This is useful if you want to move your database to another computer or to share it with someone.
  • Export to CD: Exporting to CD will prepare your database and copies of all media object files for recording onto a CD. To actually burn the CD, you will need to go to the GNOME burn:/// location, which can be accessed by navigating through Nautilus: After exporting to CD, select Go ->CD Creator in the Nautilus menu. Your database directory will show up. To burn it to the CD, click the CD icon on the Nautilus toolbar, or select File ->Write to CD in the Nautilus menu.

If a media file is not found during export, you will see the same Missing Media dialog you encounter with GEDCOM export.

Vienti GEDCOM muotoon

Sukupuun tiedot voi viedä GRAMPSilla GEDCOM-muotoiseen tiedostoon. Vientiä voi ohjata valinnnoilla (katso Fig.x.x. Vienti gedcom-muotoon-fig ).

Export into other formats

  • Web Family Tree: Exporting to Web Family Tree will create a text file that can be used by the Web Family Tree program. Export options include filter selection and the ability to limit data on living people to that of their family ties.
  • vCalendar and vCard: Exporting to vCalendar or vCard will save information in a format used in many calendaring and addressbook applications, sometimes called PIM for Personal Information Manager.
  • GRAMPS CSV Spreadsheet format: Allows exporting (and importing) a subset of your GRAMPS data in a simple spreadsheet format. See CSV Import and Export for more information. Also, see Export Display.

CSV vienti ja tuonti

This format allows you to import/export a spreadsheet of data all at once. The spreadsheet must be in the Comma Separated Value (CSV) format. Most spreadsheet programs can read and write this format. It is also easy to write by hand. This is the only Gramps import format which allows for merging with existing data.

Gnome-important.png
This spreadsheet format does not allow for 100% export of Gramps data.

It only exports (and imports) a subset of data, namely: people (names and gender), birth, baptism, death, and burial dates/places/sources, marriages (dates/places/sources) and relationships (parents and children). Notes are not exported, but new notes are appended onto the end of existing notes.

New for Gramps 3.3: Previously, sources were not exported, but now they are. Sources are referred to by their title text. You can add further details to a source after importing.

There are three main uses for this format:

  1. You can export your core gramps data into a spreadsheet format, edit it with a text or spreadsheet program, and import the changes and additions back into gramps. This is handy for sending to others to fill in, or for taking on the road when you don't have your full gramps application.
  2. You can import new data into your gramps database. For example, if you have a set of new people to add to your database, but don't want to hunt and peck your way to finding where they go, you might find it easier to type them into a spreadsheet, and then quickly bring all of them in at once. This is handy if you have a large amount of data that you are cutting and pasting from another application or the web. An example of this is restoring your Gramps database by loading the Narrative Website into a spreadsheet.
  3. You can also import a set of corrections and additions. Say that you have printed out a report, and you are going through it marking corrections. If you make each correction a section of a spreadsheet, you can "script the edits" and then execute them all at once.

Export

To export your database:

  1. Start gramps
  2. Select "Export" from the Family Trees menu
  3. Select "Comma Separated Values Spreadsheet (CSV)"

A selected set of fields of your genealogy data will be saved to a .csv file in the format described below. In addition, the people and familes are referenced so that the data can be edited and read back in, thereby updating the database.

There are some columns that will be blank, specifically note and source columns. These are listed in the spreadsheet so that you can make notes for the import, but notes are never exported with this tool. Gramps 3.3 now exports source titles; previously no source data was exported.

Your data is broken up into three sections representing individuals, marriages, and children. The exported fields and column names are:

Individuals
Person, Lastname, Firstname, Callname, Suffix, Prefix, Title, Gender, Birthdate, Birthplace, Birthsource, Baptismdate, Baptismplace, Baptismsource, Deathdate, Deathplace, Deathsource, Burialdate, Burialplace, Burialsource, Noteote
Marriages
Marriage, Husband, Wife, Date, Place, Source, Note
Families
Family, Child

The first column in each area is the gramps ID. That is what will tie your edits back to the correct data, so don't alter those data. Load this file into your favorite spreadsheet using comma separated, double-quote text delimited, and Text format (any encoding for now). Then you can add or correct data, and save it back out, keeping the same format. You can then import the data back ontop of your old data and it will be corrected.

Gramps-notes.png
Open/Libre Office allows you to turn off autoformatting when you open the CSV file.

If you don't do this, Open/Libre Office may interpret the dates incorrectly. Change the type of the column to Text rather than Standard. If your spreadsheet program doesn't allow you to format the fields before you get it into columns (eg, Excel) you need to change the display format of dates in Gramps before you export. You can do this under Edit -> Preferences -> Display -> Date Format

.

Import

To import your data:

  1. use the file from above, or create a spreadsheet (described below) with genealogical data
  2. start up gramps
  3. import the file into your current database

The merge part of this code will only add or update information to your database, and it always assume that the spreadsheet data is the correct version.

If you load this spreadsheet into Open/Libre Office, make sure you select each column as type Text rather than Standard. Standard will reformat your dates and numbers. Also, if you use Excel, you will probably want to select all cells once opened, and change the format of the cells to Text.

The spreadsheet is data made up of columns. Each column should have at the top of it the name of what type of data is in the column. You must use special names for the columns. Currently they are:

People

person - a reference to be used for families (marriages, and children)
grampsid - to assign a gramps id to the person

husband/father/parent1 - the reference of the person above who is the husband
(for female parent1, you'll need to put gender in the person area,
or edit it later in gramps)
wife/mother/parent2 - the reference of the person above who is the wife
(for male parent2, you'll need to put gender in the person area,

[You can put gender here, or in person above]

Yksityiskohdat

Kuva 5.10

Tässä on esimerkki CSV tekstimuotoisesta laskentataulusta, jossa on useita alueita:

Etunimi, Sukunimi, Syntymäpäivä
John, Tester, 11/11/1965
Sally, Tester, 01/26/1973

Henkilö, Etunimi, Sukunimi
p1, Tom, Smith
p2, Mary, Jones
p3, Jonnie, Smith
p5, James, Loucher
p6, Penny, Armbruster
p7, Tim, Sparklet

Avioliitto, Mies, Vaimo
m1, p1, p2
m2, p5, p6

Perhe, Lapsi
m1, p3
m1, p6
m2, p7

joe's boy, Harry, Smith

Perhe, Lapsi
[F1524], joe's boy

Mies, Vaimo
[I0123], [I0562]

etunimi, sukunimi
Timothy, Jones

Avioliitot otsikoitiin kirjaimila A-H.

Vinkki

Open/Libre Office -ohjelmassa voit kytkeä päältä pois automaattisen muotoilun, kun avaat CSV tiedoston. Jollet tee sitä, Open/Libre Office saattaa tulkita väärin päivämäärät. Muuta sarakkeen tyypiksi Teksti mieluummin kuin Yleinen. Mikäli taulukkoohjelmasi ei salli kenttien muotoilua ennen tietojen lukemista sarakkeisiin (esim. Excel), sinun on muutettava päivämäärien muoto Grampsissa ennen vientiä.
