A category is a software feature of MediaWiki. Categories provide automatic indexes, that are useful as tables of contents. Together with links and templates they structure a project.
Category types in Gramps
We distinguish between the following types
- Content Categories. These are Categories based on the content of the articles. A Category page [[:Category:Category name]] should be made, with a section on the top of what the Category is about
- Meta Categories. These list pages that are categorised for their status, not for their content, or articles that belong to the meta data of this wiki. The description page of these category pages should only contain the template {{Gramps category | description}}, where description shortly outlines what the category is about
Examples: Category:Documentation and Category:Gramps_copyright.
