Installation status
OS X: Mac OS X will see an official installer shortly after release with all components
Linux: We expect Linux packages for different distributions. Gramps 4.0 will only work on distributions released since October 2012, use virtualbox for older distributions. Some optional dependencies are not available yet on most distribution at the time of release. If you want those, you need to install them from source, see Ubuntu derivatives walkthrough in the installation guide for these. Specifically for Ubuntu derivatives spell checking, geography view and exiv image data require installation of source components.
Windows: Much work has been done the last months to obtain the stack needed for Gramps on Windows. A first AIO installer is available on the download page.
See the Changelog for more details.
You can get Gramps 4.0.2 from the download page.

Hello,
This will be really helpful. If we’re looking to the download statistics of the 3.4.6 relaease, it shows a lot of people uses Win 32bit.

Tried to download latest version just now – GrampsAIO64-4.0.2-2_win64_py27.exe (82.0 MB) for Win 7, but when installing it a blank dialogue box pops up and nothing happens. Tried twice to install, same thing both times.

Same problem that several users posted before: no way to install Gramps AIO64-4.0.2-2_win64_py27 with a computer running under Windows 7.
Same little blank window and then installation stops.
Could anybody of the staff please answer?
Thanks!

Version -3 installs all right in Win7 x64 (with -2 I had the same problem as others). It runs a bit differently than v3: a terminal window is permanently open (blank) and the font used in the program is blurred (looks like a problem with anti-aliasing, perhaps a matter of my settings). Otherwise — great software, thanks!

First, Great tool.
I see you have an ancestry tree viewer. Are there plans of building a family tree viewer which would display a tree of all the family members under an individual?

I have Windows 7 Vista 32bts not sure about downloading this programme. (Not technically adept.) Has anyone had any success with Gramps on Vista?

I tried to install GrampsAIO64-4.0.2-3_win64_py27 (Windows 8 Pro) and get message: Processor does not support: Supplemental Streaming SIMD Extensions 3 (SSSE3). Also, I have never used or installed gramps on my machine (new user).

I see some people are requesting GRAMPS for Windows 32-bit and Vista. I certainly sympathize with you in wanting to run GRAMPS on they system that you own. However, it might be better for our volunteer, unpaid GRAMPS developers to focus their time on recent and future platforms rather than legacy systems that are rather outdated. The easy solution for this situation is for legacy-system users to use an older version of GRAMPS. Those older GRAMPS versions available and free to all users and require no additional time from GAMPS developers. Thanks, GRAMPS team. You do excellent work!

I just discover what is the term legacy-system! Right now, gramps team aims to support all systems, limitations are rather on supporting all processors, like for @Antone. So, someone has provided an alternate version under Unstable repository.

@Raghav
A family tree viewer which would display a tree of all the family members would awesome.

Does anybody know why/how to remedy the 4.0.2 Apple/Mac problem I’m having with some file lists only being about 2 lines tall regardless of the dialog window size? This happens when selecting things like SELECT NOTE, SELECT EVENT, NEW NOTE, etc.. It seems to be limited to the “SHARE” dialogs, wheres as the “ADD” dialogs have file lists that are normal size. So if I click ADD / SELECT A MEDIA OBJECT, then I see a nice long list of files even before using the scroll bar. Whereas if I click SHARE / SELECT MEDIA OBJECT, I only get two lines of file names before using the scroll bar, and that’s regardless of how much I expand the dialog window itself—always remains merely two lines of file names.

Gramps runs just fine on my Vista home premium 32 bit system, just make sure you install the 32bit version and not the 64bit version

I tried to install version 4 (GrampsAIO64-4.0.2-3_win64_py27.exe) on my Windows 7 machine and got this error: “sorry your processor does not support: supplemental streaming SIMD extensions 3 (SSSE3)”. But version 4 installs fine on my MUCH older and slower netbook!
My processor (AMD Turion II Neo K625) does not have SSSE3, because it is AMD and just a little bit older (though still dual-core at 1500 MHz). However, version 4 of gramps runs on my netbook, whose processor (Intel Celeron M 353) only has a single core at 900 MHz, and does not support SSSE3 either (only supports up to SSE2).
Do any of the packages for the Windows installer use an Intel compiler? You can read about the history of Intel including anti-AMD settings in their compiler at: http://www.agner.org/optimize/blog/read.php?i=49.
Or, if using the gcc compiler, could this be related to a -msse2 flag issue for AMD that others have encountered (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=190998)?
Sadly, I don’t know enough to re-compile anything. But I am researching possible sources of this issue, because version 4 is AMAZING and I want everybody to be able to enjoy it.
