Gramps 3.4.0 The “always look on the bright side of life”

A few days ago, we released v3.3.2, a maintenance (“bug fix”) release.

Tonight, we announce Gramps v3.4.0, an important new feature release:

Version 3.4.0 of Gramps! The “always look on the bright side of life’“, a feature release.

  • Lots of changes and bug fixes to every part of Gramps, including XML
import/export, image handling, gedom handling, Gramplets, date handling,
    citations, reports, more!
  • Some platform-specific fixes (Windows, OSX, Linux)
  • What’s new (and what to do before you upgrade)
  • Roadmap
  • Many translation updates

The latest releases can always be found on our Sourceforge page.

At this time the 3.4.0 folder only has the .tar.gz and Ubuntu .deb files, but I expect to see other packages shortly!

    Hi
I just downloaded the OSX version and played around a little. I really like the new GUI with sleeker fonts. And I think it is faster than before.
But as you never get satisfied, I have to point out that I miss the Bold typing in tabs when they were filled with some info. I don´t know if it is a bug or feature.

It should be the case that tabs with relevant information should be bold. If this is not the case, please file a bug report at:

    Thanks!

I am using Gramps since 2006. It has evolved a lot. Thanks to it I know my entire family better than before and better than anyone else. I have 933 persons in 324 families. I added more than 400 photos I created and edited with GIMP. I love the very nice web pages gramps creates with the feature ( I do not know if it is new) that allows me to tag people in pictures like facebook does. One thing is true: Most people will not help sharing important data, specially birth dates and just a few will show some interest in viewing the web pages, the graphics reports or the family trees for each one that gramps easily creates. I just upgraded to 3.4.0 and will see what is new and better now.

I forgot to cite that I am running Gramps on Opensuse Linux 12.1. I am 100% on Linux since 1996.

There is one “SVN” version for 32-bit, noted as testing one, because there is some specific issues with Windows versions.

I have just downloaded Gramps, but regret it after 5 minutes.
Can you tell me, how can I uninstall?
    I have a Mac OS X – 10.6.8.

Is it possible to get a portable version of 3.4? As a Mac user I don’t have access to my ‘own’ Windows to create a portable edition out of the AiO installer. So I still must use the 3.3.1 portable edition on all the Windows PCs were I can’t install any software.

Is it possible to create family tree, with Gramps software, like on the picture that I’m sending link (family tree go from up to down)?

For many people the most important tool is chart/report creator. The Gramps has a lot of very usefull options but the charts options for the “normal family” (all-in-one rounded, all-descendant-fan, wall-poster, etc.) and formats (jpg, png, pdf, etc.) still aren’t numerous.

Is there a support forum for gramps? The menus and panels lose their content, becoming blank or black. Is there a place to get help?

Try the Gramps Users mailing list: http://gramps-project.org/contact/

Still no portable version after 2 month? How should I test if the reported bugs are fixed if I can’t use the new version?
Gramps 3.3.1 is really unstable (have to restart it after a few entries) and I really would like to test if 3.4 is more robust. Please don’t make Gramps more fancy with added reports and more graphics… make it more stable and reliable for users with over 50000 events and 10000 persons.

There are many better apps for cool reports with better GUIs… Gramps can only win if you focus on the pro users and we don’t need ‘cool’ features.
