GRAMPS 3.2.0 (“I am your father”) released
The Gramps Developers have released: Version 3.2.0 of Gramps! The “I am your father” release.
New Plugin System
- In the Help Menu -> Menu Status, all available plugins are visible. All plugins can be hidden, saving resources and hiding options you do not need.
Faster
- Many under the hood improvements have occurred that should improve performance enormously. New features are implemented as plugins that can be hidden.
- Performance improvement example: Insertion of a new person in a family tree with 30000 people previously took 4 seconds on a 1.4GHz PC running Gramps 3.1, but now takes milliseconds.
New Views
- There are new views, and some existing views have been greatly improved.
- People view can now be sorted on the columns.
- A Place treeview is present, nicely grouping your places under country groups.
- GeoView has left it’s beta status behind and shows your data on an online map (OpenStreetMap or Google Maps, a fast internet connection is required).
- Help Menu -> Extra Reports/Tools open a webpage with downloadable views.
Other Improvements
- Styled Notes now in most output formats that support styles.
- New languages.
- Select language in which report should be created (not yet available in all reports).

I have recently been converted to Linux and have loaded in Gramps 3.2.0 to continue my family history passion. I am slowly learning the ropes of the software and, so far, it is every bit as good in function as Legacy (my previous program). It even has some features I would have liked to see in Legacy.
The only trouble I am having with it is entering the dates. The default settings require to enter the dates using the forward slash key as a separator. Normally, this would not be an issue; however, mine is about to fall right off the keyboard on the laptop (it is hanging on by one very tiny plastic pin lol)! Is there a way to change the default setting for this so that I can use a space as a separator? I have looked at the documentation and can not find any solution, if one exists.
Overall, it is a great program, and I am having an enjoyable experience learning how it all works.
Thank you! 🙂

@Kelly: Glad to hear that you are enjoying Gramps. 😀
For dates you should be able to use a dash ‘-‘ as a delimiter when entering, but you can also go to the main menu > Edit > Preferences > Display and adjust the date preference to your taste. I personally prefer ISO YYYY-MM-DD.
Also, questions like these are probably best suited to the user mailing list. There is more information on that on our ‘Contact’ page.

I consider myself to be an experienced amateur genealogist. Having more than 22 000 person in my database.
I use both Windows and Linux and lately I discovered and tried Gramps.
It’s a great program but one thing refrains me of switching from the program that I actually use; Généatique 2007.
The graph on the main window.I really miss it. If only Gramps could come up with the same thing because it’s so easy to navigate between individuals with it or to simply have a general view of a family.
