Rewriting the reports

I’ve started looking at the reports again. We need to update these and get them cleaned up. Unfortunately, it looks to be a considerable amount of work. On top of that, there seems to be a wide range of opinions on what should be in each report. I think that no matter what we do, we won’t be able to please everyone. In fact, without generating 800 versions of each report, I think that few will be perfectly happy with each report.

I think about the best we can do is create reports that can meet about 90% of the expectations of the majority of users.

It can be depressing to start a task where you feel like you are doomed to fail :-)

Yes, right, but if we have five or six robust reports FULLY CUSTOMISABLE, (page preferences, numbers of people, ability to have sources, index, output txt + rtf + pdf90 % of Gramps users will be happy…

Do like the firefox people: please 90% of the users and let the “unsatisfied” 10% customize the software (through extensions on firefox, through custom reports on gramps)
